    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about land clearing? We've got answers. If you don't see what you're looking for, just give us a call.

    What is forestry mulching?
Forestry mulching uses a specialized machine to grind trees, brush, and undergrowth into natural mulch — right where it stands. There's no burning, no hauling, and no heavy cleanup. The mulch is left on the ground where it decomposes naturally, returning nutrients to the soil. It's the fastest, most eco-friendly way to clear overgrown land.
What's the difference between grinding and complete removal?
Complete removal pulls the entire root system using specialized equipment, preventing regrowth and leaving clean space ready for immediate landscaping. Grinding removes only the visible stump to below grade, leaving roots in place. We offer both options to fit your needs and budget.
Which stump service should I choose?
Choose complete removal for permanent solutions, new landscaping, or property development — it's our premium service that pulls the entire root system so nothing grows back. Choose grinding for cost-effective removal where regrowth isn't a concern. Not sure? We'll recommend the best option during your free on-site estimate.
How much does land clearing cost?
Every project is different. Cost depends on the size of the area, density of the vegetation, terrain, and access. We give free, no-obligation estimates after walking your property so you get an honest, accurate price — not a guess. Most residential projects range from $1,500 to $5,000, but we'll always give you a clear number before we start.
How long does it take to clear my land?
Most residential projects are done in 1–3 days. A typical 1–2 acre lot with moderate brush can often be cleared in a single day. Larger or heavily wooded properties may take longer. We'll give you a timeline with your estimate.
    What areas do you serve?
We serve Ashland, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Medina, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wayne counties across Ohio. If you're nearby but outside these areas, give us a call — we may still be able to help.
Do I need to be home during the work?
Not necessarily. As long as we have access to the property and clear instructions on what needs to be done, we can work while you're away. We'll send you photos of the progress and finished result.
Is forestry mulching better than traditional clearing?
In most cases, yes. Traditional clearing involves cutting trees, piling debris, and hauling everything away — or burning it. Forestry mulching does it all in one pass with one machine. It's faster, less expensive, causes less ground disturbance, and is better for the environment. The mulch left behind prevents erosion and enriches the soil.
Do you prepare building sites for new construction?
Yes! Our building site preparation service handles complete land clearing, rough grading, access road installation, utility access preparation, and drainage planning. We transform raw land into construction-ready sites.
What's included in building site preparation?
Complete package includes: initial land clearing and forestry mulching, rough grading to proper elevations, access road construction, utility access preparation, drainage considerations, and final site cleanup. Everything needed before construction begins.
Can you clear food plots and hunting land?
Yes — hunting land prep and food plot clearing is one of our most popular services. We clear 1-2 acre food plots, create shooting lanes, build access trails, and establish wildlife edge habitat using forestry mulching. The mulch left behind makes an excellent seedbed for clover, brassicas, or cereal grains. We also clear ATV trails and improve recreational properties throughout Northeast Ohio.
    Are you insured?
Absolutely. We carry full liability insurance on every job. Your property is protected, and so is our crew. We're happy to provide proof of insurance upon request.
What happens to the wood and debris?
With forestry mulching, everything is ground into natural mulch and left on-site. For tree cutting jobs, we can cut and stack logs for firewood, or haul debris away if you prefer. We'll discuss options during your estimate.
How much does stump grinding cost in Ohio?
Stump grinding in Ohio typically runs $2–$5 per inch of stump diameter, with most contractors charging a $100–$150 minimum. A small (under 12") stump usually runs $75–$150, a medium (12–24") stump $150–$250, and a large stump $250–$400+. Apex offers volume pricing when grinding multiple stumps in a single visit.
What's the difference between stump grinding and complete stump removal?
Stump grinding chips the stump down to 6–16 inches below grade and leaves the root ball in place to decompose naturally — fastest and cheapest. Complete stump removal pulls the entire root system out with an excavator, which is necessary if you're building over the spot, installing utilities, or planting a new tree in the same location. Removal typically costs 2–3x more than grinding.
How deep can you grind a stump?
Our equipment grinds to a maximum depth of 16 inches below ground level — deep enough for re-sodding, landscaping, or replanting most species. For deeper removal (foundation pads, septic work) we use complete stump removal with an excavator instead.
Do you grind stumps in Lorain, Medina, and Huron Counties?
Yes — stump grinding is a core service across all 12 of our Northeast Ohio counties, including Lorain, Medina, Huron, Erie, Ashland, Cuyahoga, Summit, Wayne, Richland, Crawford, Ottawa, and Seneca. Same-week scheduling is standard.
What happens to the wood chips after stump grinding?
You can keep the chips on-site as mulch for landscaping beds (most homeowners do — the volume from a single large stump can fill 2–3 wheelbarrows), or we'll haul them away as part of the job. Either way, no debris is left behind.
