    Brush Removal in Northeast Ohio

Fence lines, field edges, invasive species, overgrown boundaries — we clear it all, done right the first time.

Brush has a way of winning if you let it. A fence line that gets skipped one season turns into a wall of multiflora rose and wild grape the next. A property boundary that was clear when you bought the land gets swallowed by shrubs and saplings inside a few years.

Apex Land Services handles brush removal for property owners, farmers, and landowners across Northeast Ohio. We deal with everything from light overgrowth along fence lines to dense, chest-high thickets that cover acres. Our equipment handles it faster and more thoroughly than any hand crew.

    What Brush Removal Covers

    Overgrown Fence Lines

Reclaiming the corridor along fences buried by years of growth. Woody growth puts pressure on posts and wire, speeding deterioration. We clear a corridor on each side while working carefully around existing fence posts and wire.

    Property Boundaries

Clearing your lines so you can see them, maintain them, and keep neighbors honest. Dense brush makes boundaries invisible and unmaintainable.

    Pasture and Field Edges

Pushing the treeline back to recover usable ground. A few years of neglect can cost you ten feet or more of productive field to encroaching brush.

    Invasive Species Control

Targeted removal of multiflora rose, autumn olive, honeysuckle, tree of heaven, and other invasives that spread aggressively across Northeast Ohio properties.

    Fire Hazard Reduction

Clearing dry brush accumulation away from structures, woodpiles, and outbuildings. A dense accumulation of dead brush next to a structure is a liability — one dry summer and one ember is all it takes.

    General Overgrowth

Any area that's gotten out of hand and needs reclaimed. If it's woody, scrubby, and in the wrong place, we can take care of it.

    Brush Removal vs. Forestry Mulching

Forestry mulching grinds everything in a single pass and leaves mulch on the ground. Brush removal is broader — sometimes you want material hauled away, sometimes the brush is light enough that a mulching head is overkill, sometimes you're working in tight spaces that need a different approach.

    With brush removal, we can:

Process on-site: Using the mulching head where it makes sense — grinds everything into mulch that stays as ground cover
Pile for burning: If you prefer and conditions allow — some landowners want material gone entirely
Haul off property: For maintained lawn edges or areas where you don't want a mulch layer

Invasive Species: A Real Problem in NE Ohio

One thing we see constantly across this region is invasive species that have taken over fence lines, field edges, and woodlot understories:

    Multiflora Rose

Originally planted as a "living fence," it's spread aggressively across Ohio pastures and fence lines. A single mature plant produces millions of seeds per year. Dense thickets are impenetrable and nearly impossible to control by hand.

    Autumn Olive

A nitrogen-fixing shrub that spreads rapidly into open fields and roadsides. It shades out native grasses and wildflowers, and once established, it's a multi-year battle to eliminate.

    Honeysuckle

Both bush and Japanese varieties have naturalized aggressively in NE Ohio. Bush honeysuckle leafs out early and shades out native wildflowers and tree regeneration in woodlot understories.

    Tree of Heaven

Spreads fast from seed and sprout, tolerates poor conditions, and becomes a weedy tree problem along fence lines and roadsides. Not native, not welcome, needs to come out.

We clear these species mechanically. In many cases, mechanical clearing needs to be followed up with an herbicide program — we don't do chemical application, but we work with landowners running their own programs or working with a licensed applicator.

    Common Questions

Can you clear just part of a property?

Absolutely — we can work just the fence line, just the field edge, just the area around a structure. We define the scope during the estimate and stick to it.

    Will the brush come back?

Mechanical clearing controls growth but doesn't eliminate it, especially for aggressive invasives like multiflora rose and autumn olive. For persistent species, a follow-up herbicide program is often needed. We can point you toward resources, but chemical application isn't our trade.

Do you haul the brush away?

We can, if that's what you want. Hauling adds cost — loading, transporting, and disposing takes time. Many clients prefer we process it in place with the mulching head, which is faster and cleaner. We'll lay out both options.

Can you work around existing landscaping?

Yes. We talk through what stays and what goes before we start. Marking what you want preserved with flagging tape or paint is helpful. We're careful, but clear communication upfront prevents mistakes.

What's the best time of year?

Late fall through early spring is often ideal — plants are dormant, ground is firmer, and visibility is better without full leaf cover. That said, we work year-round and summer clearing is perfectly fine, just thicker to work through.
