Tree Cutting Services in Northeast Ohio

Equipment-driven tree removal for land clearing — not tree surgery. We take down what needs to go and leave your property cleaner than we found it.

There's a difference between tree cutting and tree service work — and it matters. If you're looking for someone to climb your oak and prune the upper limbs, that's an arborist. But if you've got a wooded lot to open up, a fence line full of dead trees, a building site to clear, or a stretch of property that's gotten out of control, that's land clearing — and that's exactly what Apex Land Services does.

We work across Northeast Ohio helping property owners, farmers, developers, and hunters deal with trees that are in the wrong place, in rough shape, or just no longer serving the land well. Our approach is ground-based and equipment-driven. We use a compact track loader with a feller buncher, grapple, and hydraulic shears — not bucket trucks, not chainsaws from a ladder, not subcontracted crews.

What Selective Tree Removal Looks Like

    Dead or Dying Trees

Hazardous trees that threaten buildings, fences, or people. We take them down safely with grapple-controlled felling — no guesswork about where they'll land.

    Storm-Damaged Trees

After storms or ice events, damaged trees are unstable and unpredictable. Our equipment controls the tree before the cut, making removal safe and efficient.

    Invasive or Junk Species

Box elder, tree of heaven, wild cherry thickets — species that crowd out good timber or overtake pasture. We clear them selectively while preserving what you want to keep.

    Canopy Opening

Thinning so desirable trees have room to grow. Improves timber value, wildlife habitat, and overall woodland health.

    Building Footprint Clearing

Taking out trees within a construction zone while leaving mature trees on the edges for shade and privacy.

    Woodlot Thinning

Improving timber stands and wildlife habitat by removing competing, damaged, or low-value trees.

    Equipment-Driven, Ground-Based

Our compact track loader is the workhorse of every tree cutting job we run. For large-diameter trees, we use a feller buncher attachment that grabs and cuts the tree in a single motion — giving us complete control over even the biggest stems. For smaller trees and cleanup, we switch between a grapple to grab and control trees as they come down, and hydraulic shears to cut cleanly at the base.

    Safety

The machine controls the tree. We're not relying on wedges and luck to dictate where a stem falls. The grapple grabs the tree before the cut, directing it exactly where we want it.

    Speed

Equipment moves faster than manual crews. On a lot with dozens of trees to remove, the difference in time — and your final bill — is significant.

    Reach

A compact track loader gets into tight spaces that larger equipment can't. We can work along fence lines, near buildings, and in wooded areas that would be impractical with a full-size machine.

    No Collateral Damage

We're not dragging logs through your yard. Trees get cut, controlled, and moved — not dropped haphazardly.

Combining Tree Cutting with Forestry Mulching

Most land clearing projects involve more than just trees. Once the stems are down, you're left with brush, tops, stumps, and undergrowth. Here's how a combined job typically runs:

    1. 1We start with the tree cutting — taking down larger trees with the grapple/shear attachment, cutting to manageable lengths
    2. 2We switch to the forestry mulching head, which processes the tops, limbs, brush, and smaller-diameter trees directly into mulch
    3. 3Stumps are ground down during the mulching pass
    4. 4What's left is a clean, mulched surface with no burn piles, no debris hauling, no mess

This combination is the most complete land clearing solution we offer — and it's often the most cost-effective way to go from overgrown to open in a single mobilization.

    Common Questions

    Do you handle large trees?

Yes. Our feller buncher attachment handles large-diameter trees efficiently and safely, while our hydraulic shears and grapple manage smaller stems. The feller buncher grabs and cuts the tree in one motion, giving us complete control over where it falls — even on big timber.

What happens to the cut trees?

That depends on what you want. We can process everything on-site through forestry mulching, leaving a clean ground cover. We can pile material for burning if that's allowed and preferred. We can also cut to length for firewood if you want to keep it.

    Do you remove stumps?

Our forestry mulching head grinds stumps down to several inches below grade. If you just want tree removal without mulching the whole site, we can discuss stump grinding options separately.

Will you work near buildings or power lines?

We use the grapple to direct fall exactly where we want it, so we're careful around structures. We don't work on trees that are in contact with utility lines — that requires a licensed utility contractor.
